blaugust week 1: intro

this year i’m doing blaugust for the first time, to try and get back into blogging regularly. i was never a blogger as such, although for a good chunk of time (2005-2011-ish) i kept a regular(-ish) livejournal, where i sometimes talked about my life, but most of it was fandom stuff, and on the whole it wasn't built around a specific theme or interest.

this post is about my goals for this challenge, and some general reflections on why i joined and what i hope to get out of it.

first of all, realistically, most posts are going to be some kind of list. i tend to think and write in lists rather than in flowing text and, while that’s something i’d like to change, i don’t want to put too much pressure on myself during the challenge when it comes to style. maybe more narrative posts will happen naturally. or maybe not. either way, some of the suggested prompts work well in list format. by the way, when i say ‘list’, i don’t mean just a collection of names or titles or links, but my own comments and reflections too.

as for goals, i have three i want to commit to:

i did prepare a little bit in advance by organizing some ideas i already had (and two more developed drafts that fit well with the theme i’ve chosen). i’ll also happily use week 3 as an opportunity to geek out about my favorite authors, bands, movies and other hobbies. but other than that, i’m just going with the flow.
